100–150g vs. 200–250g: How Much Hair Do You Need?

When planning hair extensions, length is only part of the decision. The amount of hair, measured in grams, also shapes the fullness of your finished look. At AM Hair Extensions in Manhattan, our pricing uses two ranges: 100–150 grams and 200–250 grams.

What do grams measure?

Grams describe the weight of the extension hair—not its length or the number of attachment points. Two clients choosing the same length may need different amounts of hair to blend with their natural density and achieve their goals.

How should you compare the two ranges?

The 100–150g range contains less hair than the 200–250g range. That does not make one range automatically right for fine hair or the other right for thick hair. Your starting length, density, desired length, placement, and attachment method all matter. More hair should be chosen for a suitable result, rather than simply selecting the largest amount.

If you want fuller ends with little extra length, tell your stylist. If you want a longer transformation, bring an inspiration photo that shows the fullness as well as the length. The aim is a balanced blend, with an amount your natural hair can comfortably support.
