K-Tips, Tape-Ins, or Wefts: Choosing Your Extension Method

The right hair extension method starts with your natural hair and the way you want to wear it. At AM Hair Extensions in NYC, we help you compare attachment techniques alongside your goals, styling routine, and maintenance plans.

K-Tips: individual keratin bonds

K-Tips are attached strand by strand with keratin bonds. Individual placement allows a customized blend and natural movement. During your consultation, discuss how the bonds will be positioned, how to care for them, and what professional removal and replacement involve.

Tape-Ins: flat adhesive wefts

Tape-Ins use thin adhesive wefts placed between sections of natural hair. They create a flat finish that blends with your hair. Ask about placement, products to keep away from the attachment area, and professional removal and reapplication.

Wefts: fullness in rows

Weft extensions use rows of hair to add fuller-looking length and volume. Row placement should be tailored to your hair density and the styles you wear. Our traditional sew-in technique uses a braided foundation with wefts sewn onto it. A consultation helps establish which row-based approach suits your hair.

What about I-Tips and Nano Beads?

I-Tips and Nano Beads are strand-by-strand options secured with beads rather than adhesive. Nano beads use smaller attachments. The choice depends on your natural density, coverage at the attachment points, and care routine; smaller attachments alone do not establish suitability.

Four questions to bring to your consultation

  • Can this method blend with my current length, texture, and density?
  • How will the placement work with my usual parting and hairstyles?
  • What professional maintenance will I need, and what does it cost?
  • How much hair is appropriate for the length and fullness I want?

AM uses 100% human Slavic and Turkish hair. Color and texture matching are part of planning the result, together with the attachment technique and amount of hair.

Compare the full plan

Installation is one part of the commitment. Include your maintenance appointments and daily care when comparing options. Your stylist will confirm the appropriate schedule for your method and hair rather than applying one timeline to everyone.

Use our Compare Methods page to review attachments, listed gram-range prices, and separate maintenance charges. For daily-care guidance, explore extension aftercare. You do not need to arrive with a method already chosen—tell us your goals, and we will talk through the options.
